Ring Quest IX: The Nine: The Witch-king of Angmar

The Witch-king of Angmar was the chief of the Nazgûl, King of Angmar, and Sauron’s great captain in his wars. A wraith, the Witch-king of Angmar was nearly indestructible, a terrible warrior, and a cunning strategist. Once a king of men, he was corrupted by one of the nine Rings of Power given to the lords of men and became an undead wraith in the service of Sauron. After the first defeat of Sauron in the War of the Last Alliance, the Witch-King fled to Angmar, a kingdom he ruled for thousands of years until he returned to Mordor to lead Sauron's armies in the War of the Ring. He was killed in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields by Meriadoc Brandybuck and Éowyn, niece of Théoden, at the end of the war. So the prophecy of Glorfindel was fulfilled, for the Witch-king did not fall at the hands of a man, but at the hands of a woman and a Hobbit. With his death, and the coming of Aragorn II in the black ships, the Battle of the Pelennor Fields was lost by Sauron.

Unlike the other eight cemetery caches in this series, this cache is an ammo can and requires some brush-hiking to reach. Your best bet is to park at the suggested parking coordinates and approach from the west. The log book contains the coordinates to a marker in the cemetery with information you’ll need to find the One Ring in the final cache of this series.

Final Cache Coordinate Information – Shadowfax

Shadowfax was a mighty horse of Rohan, tamed by the wizard Gandalf and reluctantly granted to him as a gift by King Théoden of the Rohirrim. No man could tame Shadowfax, who would not tolerate a bridle or saddle and only carried Gandalf by choice. At the coordinates contained in the cache logbook, you’ll see a bucking horse and the dates, Sept 1, 190S Feb 23, 19T0. Make note of the values of S and T, which you’ll need to find the One Ring.
