louwtjievdw nominee for featured Geocacher of the Month

louise_gerhard and Henzz write, ” Uncle Louwtjie van der Watt AKA louwtjievdw… is a legend and cachers are travelling vast distances to find his unique and challenging caches. Uncle Louwtjie has at the time of writing 1178 finds. He also has 269 caches that he maintains vigorously. If a cache is gone then it will be replaced as quickly as possible. More important is his techniques of hiding caches. He does not use the normal conventional Tupperware or other commercial containers as a rule, but rather manufacture caches from household items found in the home. This technique is unique in South Africa and it creates a different feel for geocaches. His caches are high quality and it will challenge even the hardiest cache finder. Due to his unconventional technique of hiding these customised items cachers from all over the country at one stage or another does a sort of a pilgrimage trip to Bloemfontein. His logs, friendly advice, the cup of coffee at his home to anyone that wants to share some time with him and the willingness to contribute his time towards all of us is something that must be recognized.”

CAMOURA and ankhesenamon

CAMOURA and ankhesenamon nominees for the featured Geocachers of the Month

VICTOREMM writes, “I would like to suggest Mr. Carlos (CAMOURA) and his wife Carla Moura (ankhesenamon) to the Geocachers of the month. They are the greater ambassadors of Geocaching in Brazil. They hid together about 196 caches, about 23% of the caches in our state SAO PAULO, and 18% in all Brazil. In addition to several meetings and interviews that they gave to magazines and newspapers. CAMOURA’s last work was to create a Power Trail to help everyone from leaving Sao Paulo  to Intervales Park, where you will find the Project APE. They hide caches in a separate to be possible to one get the cache of the other because of few geocachers in Brazil. We have a very different reality here in Brazil, geocaching is not very popular, and their effort is enormous to keep this great adventure alive.

Team Bever.vw says, “In the Netherlands we have ‘De Duintoppers’ who are making very nice caches with for everybody, easy traditional geocaches, walking, biking and even boating Multi-Caches, mysteries and so on and so on. All this caches are in perfect condition. They are always helpful as well as for beginning Geocachers as long with experienced Geocachers. This team De Duintoppers adopted a lot of Geocachers and it always feels like coming home when we met Dick eand Ineke the De Duintoppers. They are the best promoters of Geocaching in The Netherlands. They have very good contacts with authorities in the area to place the Geocaches and it happens that they contacting them with the question to place something in a new nature part. They are an alternative tourist-information due to the good description in each Geocache.

  • I would like to vote for the Duintoppers. They have a lot of good caches.

  • Kerkers

My vote: Oom Loutjie. Thanks for sharing your amazing caches with us.

  • I vote for camoura and Ankhesenamon, because I know that they are doing a hard and good work to make geocaching in Brazil grow. Take the power trail from Sao Paulo to Project APE as an example…

They really are the embassies. of geocaching in Brazil!

  • de zolder

They all would be well deserving winners, but I vote for De Duintoppers.

With over >300 caches placed which are highly valued by many of us given the 4000
favorite points those caches received, they are well known in the Dutch Geocaching
community. Having found > 100 of their caches they enabled many fun filled afternoons
    for me and my kids.

  • Land Rover Team

Land Rover Team, Oom Louwtjie gets my vote, a true geocacher in every sense. He keeps the game exciting, thanks Oom Louwtjie for the hours you dedicate to keeping us entertained.

  • irisisleuk

Some months choosing the geocacher of the month is easy. This month I don’t think it is easy.

I haven’t found caches or been in contact with any of them. And the amount of votes for louwjtievdw is so overwhelming that it is discouraging to champion anyone else.

I would love to champion De Duintoppers, and hope their name will be corrected. Why is it spelled du duintoppers? Although I live in the Netherlands I didn’t have the pleasure yet to do their caches, but thanks to this nomination I’ve read some cache pages and they are now on my to do list.

But I would also love to champion Camoura and ankhesenamon. Just for them I would like to vote 100 times here, since it will be hard to find 100 cachers in their country who are able to do so. They are true amabassadors in a country where another language is spoken, where geocaching isn’t as popular yet as in lots of other countries. If this contest is not about the numbers, then the amount of votes shouldn’t matter.

And already a lot of nice things have been said about louwjtievdw. Just how Camoura and ankhesenamon have put geocaching on the map of Brazil, he seems to have done the same for South Africa.

All are true Geocachers of the Month and I wish they weren’t nominated at the same time.

  • technonut

Louwtjie get my vote. Simply the best in SA. Always look forward to finding his caches.

  • Tartan Terror

We vote for louwtjievdw for dedication and originality. I only mer him once (@ our first Mega), and have not logged any of his caches, BUT everyone talks of his great caches. There probably isn’t a local geocacher who does not know his reputation.

  • Team ZET

Definitely louwtjievdw for the winner. His caches are really awesome.

  • Span Marlin

Span Marlin votes for louwtjievdw. We have not done all his caches, but are working on it! He has the best city caches we encountered anywhere in the 10 countries that we cached in.

  • Como eu disse CAMOURA and ankhesenamon são realmente os que mais se empenham pelo Geocaching no Brasil… meu voto é deles!!!

  • Foraginghedgehogs

    louwtjievdw gets our vote!

  • Wilduvo

Oom Louwtjie and his Vroutjie(wife) is very special people and the dearest friends of all the serious and big cachers in South Africa. If you don’t know Oom Louwtjie in SA in means you are very new in this game (hobby) but one thing is sure and that is that it is not going to be long before you going to meet these beautiful couple of Bloemfontein. And please don’t dare him, you will came second. We told him we are going to drink coffee at his home at six a clock the morning and that he must be ready. Six a clock we have coffee and beskuit with them. The next morning we start caching early in the morning and about 06:30 we passOom Louwtjie on his bicycle on his way to maintain his caches after we reported a few DNF the previous day. Two nights Oom Louwtjie en Vroutjie visit us in the caravanpark and we have a atmost enjoyable time to “kuier” with them around the braaivleis (barberque) fire. Yes, and fit as a young one. Do all of his hiding and maintenance on his bicycle. He is a well known in Bloemfontein. My vote will be for Oom Louwtjie because if there is one person that deserve it then its him.

  • Blue Bull Magic

    Willie Nel (BLUE BULL MAGIC)
I will vote for Oom Loutjie. He introduced me to geocache and I will never forget the first day he took me and we ride bicycle for 95 km to go and retrieve a cache. It was exciting. Yes and good exercise. I am a keen cache hunter and I am amazed by his efforts and enthusiasm to introduce people to it and the innovative way of planting more and more caches. He must be NUMBER 1 in the world.

  • louwtjievdw

I would like to thank everyone who has voted for me as well as a special thanks to the overseas members.
I am placing ten new caches as my contribution to the “Two Million Geocaches” celebration.
Refer: Madiba with a very nice view (GC2MAP4)

  • Marelize&Francois

    Louwtjievdw!!! What an awesome cacher!!

  • My vote goes for louwtjievdw. I started Geocaching only fairly recently and custom made caches are always my favorite to find. Oom Louwtjie’s caches are legendary and I can’t wait to be able to head up to Bloem to find some of his caches. It would also be awesome to have a South African cacher as cacher of the month

  • stephanivdb

Would have to choose louwtjievdw. His aim to keep caching interesting and enjoyable for fellow cachers, and his dedication to the sport is admirable. Can’t imagine the time and effort that goes into maintaining that many caches and placing more. Truly a South African legend and a cacher to look up to!

  • Witelse

As mentioned. Oom Louwtjie has done a huge part for geocaching in South Africa. People from all over come for a trip to Bloemfontein to do his unique and special caches. Luckily I live in the same city as he does so I was spoiled to do all his caches to date. A real pleasure and honour indeed! He gets my vote for sure.

  • masterguru

    louwjtievdw has my vote

  • Sonsoekster

I would like to vote for oom Louwtjievdw. He is a legend in the South African caching community because of his active cache placing and maintenance in his home town, Bloemfontein. So much so, that a lot of cachers specially travel to Bloemfontein just to enjoy his unique cache hides. He is also an example to all of us due to his activeness and fitness at a high age, we all want to be like oom Louwtjie one day when we retire. He is always smiling and it’s always a pleasure to meet him and his wife at a caching event.

  • Linky Hauman

    Definitely Oom Louwtjievdw!

  • Dalene van der Watt

louwtjievdw has my vote. He is for sure a legend in South Africa!!
