What to expect at a Mega-Event

Calendars belonging to geocachers around the world are filling up as Mega-Event season gets into full swing. Each fun-filled Mega-Event has its own unique flavor, but there are a few things that most Mega-Events have in common. If you’re new to geocaching, attending a Mega-Event is a great way to get into the game and get to know the geocaching community. Read on to learn more about what to expect when attending a Mega-Event.

New geocaches and Adventures
Mega-Event hosts often place new Adventures and geocaches around the Event location. These new hides can be quite impressive and might test your geocaching skills. If any of them are too tough, luckily there will be a bunch of other geocachers nearby ready to join you and work together to find the cache.

Meeting geocachers and making friends
A Mega-Event is a great place to meet other geocachers and make new friends. Geocachers tend to be a friendly bunch, so even if you’re new to the game or on the shy side, you’re still likely to find other folks to chat with at a Mega-Event. If you’re looking for a good conversation icebreaker, ask geocachers about their favorite nearby caches.

Learning something new
If you’re looking to expand your geocaching skills and know-how, attending a Mega-Event is a great way to do that. Workshops with themes around creating and hiding caches, and ways to to find certain rare or difficult types of caches are often part of the Event’s schedule. There’s also a lot you can learn from fellow cachers at Events. If you have a burning question about geocaching, a Mega-Event is a place where you’re likely to find your answer.
