Four ways to practice geocaching gratitude

Here in the U.S., the month of November and its Thanksgiving holiday invite us to practice gratitude and reflect on what we’re thankful for. At HQ, we’re so grateful for the incredible geocaching community that gives so much to the game with their creativity and dedication. The Thanksgiving table isn’t the only appropriate place for practicing gratitude; there are also many opportunities for practicing gratitude in geocaching. Below are ideas for how you can spread the geocaching love this November and practice gratitude in geocaching.

Give a Favorite point
When you find an especially wonderful geocache, give it a Favorite point to show gratitude to the cache’s owner. Sharing that little green heart lets the owner know how much you appreciate the thoughtfulness they put into their hide.

Place a geocache
Practice gratitude for the caching community by placing a new hide for geocachers to discover. Chances are that this display of gratitude to the community will come back to you in the gratitude from finders in their logs and Favorite points they award the cache.

Write a nice log
Another great way to show gratitude to geocache hiders is to write a nice log describing how you found the geocache. As a cache owner, there’s something really special about reading logs and learning about the experiences that your cache created for other explorers.

Take part in CITO
A list of ways to practice geocaching gratitude wouldn’t be complete without mention of Cache In Trash Out® (CITO), an environmental initiative supported by the geocaching community that preserves the natural beauty of cache-friendly spaces. At CITO Events around the globe you can show your gratitude for the game by helping clean up spaces that make up the geocaching gameboard.
