Top 8 Geocaches of the Week 2023
We highlight special geocaches from around the world each week—and what a year it’s been! We saw a fantastic variety of geocaches, ranging from a Plinko-themed geocache in the United States, a cleverly hidden geocache in Germany, an a-maze-ing gadget in the Netherlands, to a first-to-find quest in Canada, and many more.
We looked at the geocaches you liked most on our blog, Facebook, and Twitter to assemble a list of the top 8 to share. Let us know your favorites:
1.) Q’s Geo-Plinko – GC5BQX1
Step right up for a game of Q’s Geo-Plinko! You’ll need a bit of good luck to log this Geocache of the Week (GC5BQX1). This oversized game/cache combo is sure to entertain!
As you approach GZ, you see a green, wooden chest standing about five feet tall in the distance. An acrylic Geocaching® logo is attached to the front of the chest, and an ammo can sits on the ground beneath. With the cache container out in the open, you think you’ve come across your easiest geocache find yet. But wait—the adventure with this geocache has just begun!
2.) See’n Sucht – GC8JHXD
Some geocaches really grab your attention and draw you in, almost like a magnet. Does that ring a bell? What about a wind chime?
Creativity and innovation make for amazing geocache hides; the geocaching community never lacks inspiration. Our Geocache of the Week, See’n Sucht (GC8JHXD), will prove that some places really are made for a geocache!
3.) Rundtosset nøglestafet – GC56N5D
What do you get when you cross a birdhouse with an obstacle course? One exciting geocache! We’re traveling to Denmark to find our Geocache of the Week, Rundrosset nøglestafet (GC56N5D).
Located in western Denmark is the most exciting birdhouse in all the land. Standing all alone in the woods and finding the cache is not the hard part. According to the cache page, the coordinates will lead geocachers directly to the birdhouse. Once geocachers arrive at GZ, that’s when the fun begins.
4.) Arte de Portas Abertas – GC3D4F9
In the early 2010s, the historic downtown of Funchal on Madeira Island, Portugal, found itself with quiet streets and many abandoned buildings. To combat this decay, the city council collaborated with local artists to revitalize and beautify the street of Rua de Santa Maria by painting elaborate designs on as many doors as possible. Today, tourists flock from all over to admire the wondrous art, and the city now has a new lease on life.
In its decade-long existence, our Geocache of the Week, Arte de Portas Abertas (GC3D4F9), has accumulated a whopping 772 Favorite points. Take a stroll down Rua de Santa Maria with us and see what makes this cache so special!
5.) Space Invader – GC7QEJJ
The search for alien life is right at your fingertips.
Over 1,000 reports of something ‘out of this world’ are coming in from London since 2018. Could it be an interstellar species? Just a weather balloon? An enthusiastic hobbyist? Whatever it may be, conspiracies are floating around as to what this geocache is (GC7QEJJ), who placed it, and what it means for the rest of the world.
6.) The Gokyo Lakes – GC1ZDJJ

7.) They Would Have Loved It – GCGGGV
What’s a T5 without a struggle, right?
Not all caches are puzzles hidden in plain sight. For some caches, the challenge is the journey itself. This Geocache of the Week is an example of just how far some geocachers are willing to go!
In September, three intrepid cachers set out to claim a First To Find on a lonely cache in the Canadian wilderness. But this wasn’t just any old geocache! They Would Have Loved It (GCGGGV) waited more than 20 years to be found and set the record for the oldest unfound geocache in the world!
8.) Riana’s Treasure – GC1W2H3
Namibia is a country rich in biodiversity with woodland savannas, sandy beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, lush floodplains, and arid deserts. In this edition of Geocache of the Week (GC1W2H3), we head to this stunning southern African country. Home to nearly 350 caches, what better way to connect with an environmentally focused nation than by geocaching!
