Adventure Lab Spotlight: Guide through historical Split

The seaside Croatian city, Split, is rich in history and natural beauty. If you’re visiting you might find all the sightseeing options overwhelming; that’s where Adventure Lab comes in handy. The Adventure, Guide through historical Split, takes explorers to five places, ranging from a Roman emperor’s palace to the Croatian National Theater, and gives them a taste of all Split has to offer.

If you’re short on time, you could complete the Adventure in an hour and enjoy it as a brief walking tour of the city, or you could use the five Locations as an outline for an entire day of sightseeing in the city. With so much to discover at each stop, you’ll want to slow down and take it all in.

This is especially true of the Location placed at Diocletian’s Palace. The palace is a whole complex of buildings that make up half of Split’s old city. The ancient buildings tell the story of Emperor Diocletian’s later years and the significance of the Roman province of Dalmatia, in which Split was a major city. To complete the Location, you must find your way to a particular building and answer a question about its windows.

Another highlight of the Adventure is the Republic Square. This large public square was designed to resemble the grand squares and colonnades of Venice. The Initiative to build the square was started in the mid-19th century by Split’s Mayor, Antonio Bajamonti, who came from an Italian family and wanted to highlight the Italian architectural style.
