Meet TIN MAN (GC3JAY4), the Geocache of the Week that answers the famous question, ‘What about the heart that you promised Tin Man?’
Thanks to Richard E, Tin Man has found his heart just outside of Albany, NY. This difficulty 1.5, terrain 1.5 traditional geocache has treasure hunters falling in love with the the gentle, tender, and emotional metal man.
Richard explains, “I have been a Wizard of Oz fan since childhood, never missing the yearly showing on TV. The Tin Man is my favorite character.” Richard’s love for the movie and geocaching inspired him to build a life-size Tin Man with “a moving heart that is activated by opening the door on his chest.”
The cache is a big hit among Premium Member geocachers, whether or not they consider themselves a fan of The Wizard of Oz. Nearly 80 Premium Members have logged this cache and awarded it 64 Favorite Points since the cache was published less than six months ago.
With Geocaching.com’s request, Richard agreed to temporarily grant access to basic members for an opportunity to view and find this clever creation.

The cache logs are filled with excitement and gratitude from the community. One geocacher who logged “TIN MAN” writes, “What more can be said – just look at the favorite percentage on this cache – 98% at the time of this log. I’d give it two if I could! Without a doubt the most unique cache I’ve ever encountered! Great workmanship and creativity. Very impressive.”

requires no tools, but does require a unique perspective. Cachers logging this find also discover local wildlife like Blue Heron. One cacher who found ‘Odyssey at Jaunita Beach’ logged, “Awesome!! 20 minutes into our first shot at it, we hit the jackpot. The credit goes to Tami, who took a ‘hands-off, take everything in’ approach and used her logic to narrow it down and make the find. This is one of the top five, most well crafted containers I’ve ever seen. My hat’s off to you!”

Join the International EarthCache Day celebration on October 14. Each EarthCacheteaches visitors about the playground all geocachers enjoy – the earth. An EarthCache takes adventurers to a unique site showcasing geological features. Simply discover and log an EarthCache, or attend an EarthCaching event, this Sunday to take part in the worldwide movement.
EarthCaches can reveal why a giant boulder came to rest in the middle of a prairie or how a river flows in two opposite directions in one day. Instead of finding a container at an EarthCache, geocachers learn and report their geology discovery to log a smiley.
There are now more than 14,000 active EarthCaches around the globe. Go to the official Geocaching.com Facebook page to share your International EarthCache Day experience.

Sherry Adams writes, “Mike, a.k.a. firedog09us has spent 27 years as a career firefighter. In his spare time, which he doesn’t have much of, he enjoys geocaching. He has introduced quite a few of his friends to this also. But what is really special about Mike’s geocaching is his hides. He has some of the coolest and most creative caches in Northeast Alabama. He puts a lot of time, effort and creativity into these hides and it shows. Almost everyone that visits one will comment on how fun, unique and clever they are.”
Nominated by duncast, John, a.k.a. TeamAstro “is a prolific finder and hider of caches, and an iconic cacher from South Australia. Very approachable and friendly, his eagerness to help out the new, and frankly give a piece of his mind on other’s caches is greatly respected in the South Australian community. Astro’s Solar System series of caches is an outstanding achievement. It is a series of caches being progressively released across Australia from Adelaide that create the worlds largest scale model of the Solar System. Astro is also the proud owner of the most popular cache in SA based on Favorite Points. Astro La Vista, Baby!”
Brandon.helm11 explains, “Whether it’s a Christmas tree, using eleven empty micro cache containers as ornaments and the twelfth as the log, or by honoring a small town by preserving local history by sharing his locations with other cachers and writing up a wonderful and informative description about each hide, Gene, a.k.a. Yowza-PA has inspired me to be creative in my own hides. Yowza-PA has also been a great advocate for this wonderful game offering tips, tricks, and techniques to others and making the experience more memorable for all of us who know his unforgettable hides.”
