Grab your helmets, headlamps, and a spelunking friend for a cave diving adventure in the Swiss Alps for this Geocache of the Week. With high peaks and the beautiful Walensee it’s easy to see why people come to this location, but cache owner, tuxracer, had their eyes set on something else. Deep below the skyscraping mountains and glimmering alpine lake is a vast underground cave formerly used for mining. A perfect opportunity for an ambitious D5/T4 geocache with an Indiana Jones feel.

Today, we release a new country/regional souvenir for Monaco! If you have found a geocache in Monaco, you automatically receive the souvenir on your profile.

Poised along the stunning Côte d’Azur is the independent microstate of Monaco. As the second smallest but most densely populated country in the world, its size is comparable to New York’s Central Park. The bustling quartier of Monte Carlo, infamous annual Grand Prix, and popular oceanographic museum overlooking the French Riviera make for a coastal geocaching dream.

It’s no wonder that residents (called Monacoians) live in the only country in the world to reach a Human Development Index above 1.0 (a magnificent score denoting the best quality of life). Happy residents means happy caches, leading us to this Geocache of the Week, Chemin des pecheurs!

You’ve heard the story of Atlantis, a legendary city engulfed by the waves, never again to emerge. But you might not know of another submerged city, Curon, located near the Austrian border in Italy. Submerged in 1950, the town exists now only in the memories of its former inhabitants, and as one lone church steeple emerging defiantly from the water. You can pay homage to the sunken metropolis (no scuba gear required) when you find Der Turm – La Torre, our Geocache of the Week. Continue reading →
