Geocaching is celebrating the 2 Millionth Active Geocache by rewarding geocachers with more than a dozen previously unreleased Geocaching Souvenirs. Souvenirs are digital post cards for your profile. You earn a souvenir by finding a geocache in a specific country, like Spain. The virtual pieces of art are displayed on your Geocaching profile page, as well as on the Geocaching iPhone, Android and Windows Phone 7 apps.

Geocaching will release five souvenirs shortly after the 2 Millionth Active Geocaches is reached. We’ll release five Geocaching Souvenirs each work day until all previously unreleased souvenirs are available to geocachers.  After all the souvenirs are released no more state or regional souvenirs are planned. Nearly a hundred souvenirs already exist! See a selection of the most popular Geocaching Souvenirs offered on Geocaching!

    here now!

  • http://www.facebook.com/lucie.melen Lucie Melen

Frustrating when you’re here in the UK – we’re nearing the end of Tuesday now but obviously you’re only just starting it over there so they’ve not been published yet. Excited to see what we get next.

  • Aladna

I like a souvenir in the Netherlands :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/lucie.melen Lucie Melen

We went to Gibraltar just a month before we discovered caching. It was gutting to see all the cool caches we had walked straight past!

  • jesipr

I hope is Puerto Rico :-)

  • Jim

    How about one for Italy.

  • http://www.facebook.com/arne.munch Arne Munch

i dont think Denmark gets one this time. Ireland is still missing a province and Australia three territories. And the last three probably goes to England, Scotland and Wales.

  • TuuronTour

Has the Netherlands-souvenir been discussed with Dutch cachers? The font is poorly chosen, it’s more associated with Germany than with the Netherlands. Sorry but as a Dutch cacher I think you did a VERY bad job with designing this souvenir.

  • Mrs Hebbes

The Dutch souvenir looks like a German flowershop. What has this to do with the Netherlands?

  • VLuis

I’m hoping for Greece and Italy souvenirs… South Europe deserves more souvenirs :)

  • http://twitter.com/LuisYoPR LuisYo Alvarado

:( I’m still sad that I haven’t seen a souvenier for the island of enchantment… (Puerto Rico) :(

  • http://twitter.com/LuisYoPR LuisYo Alvarado

    me too!!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/msiporin Matthew C Siporin

Looks like Mexico is probably left out. Doubt they will be in the final 7 tomorrow.

  • http://twitter.com/cacheDisland Cache D Island

How about one for the Island of Puerto Rico? over 1,000 caches and a vast, rising geocaching community of over 200 geocachers. Beautiful beaches, awesome mountain views and rich spanish heritage. How about it, Groundspeak???

  • http://twitter.com/LuisYoPR LuisYo Alvarado

I agree! At least one per country… :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/gary.wing.12 Gary Wing

Cached on the Great Wall of China and cached in the shadows of the Great Sphinx and Great pyramids in Egypt, so hoping for them to have souvenirs.

  • Alan

Well, the five final ones have been designed, but from all the comments below I would agree that Italy and Scotland would be great ones. Other countries (yes, I am biased as I have cached there) Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, Switzerland, and Denmark would be great. Someone asked why the Netherlands one looked like a German flower shop…having spent much time in the Netherlands, they have shops that look just like the image – walking down streets in Amsterdam, you see tulip and other flower shops all around – very beautiful. I think it is a nice image.

  • Tervajörkki

We got a souvenir showing a KANTELE (musical instrument) and a fish. That fish I could not recocnize, is it a pike? Although I have been fishing around here in Finland all my life, I have never got a beast like that!

  • irisisleuk

No one asked why the Netherlands one looked like a German flower shop. Someone just stated that the font type is poorly chosen. He said it’s more associated with Germany than with the Netherlands. With is funny btw, since the font type seems to be Old English. Luckily the Netherlands is known for its numerous …flowers/flower shops? Oh no, just read the explanation with the souvenir.

  • gorilika

    I hope ITALY

  • Carol

    Still wanting Mexico!

  • Ulven7470

We are still waiting for denmark, come on, please give us that souvenir [D:]

  • Uzed

    Italia????

  • olfwyn

strange: Ireland has different souvenirs – but only one for UK – none for Italy or other European countries ? They must be made soon !

  • Geo

The last Australian one is still missing and already 8 were published today ;).

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

We’re on it! Western Australia will be served up shortly. That’s the last souvenir on our shelves.

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

Geo – thanks for mentioning the missing souvenir. It’ll start showing up in profiles shortly!

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

The Puerto Rico geocaching community is a big part of our hearts! The 30+ souvenirs we finished issuing we’re created more than two years ago. We thought the 2 millionth geocache was a great time to celebrate by pulling them off the shelf and releasing them. Unfortunately we don’t have the resources to produce more souvenirs currently, but definitely wanted to share all the amazing souvenirs we had previously created.

  • Diane

    Mexico, please!

  • Redfist

    Brazil??? :-)

  • Alicia Anderson

Denmark has one! It was released today.

  • http://www.facebook.com/gerd.conzelmann Gerd Conzelmann

I miss a Souvenir for Turkey, btw, there should be Souvenirs for all countries that have geocaches :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/catherine.kilgour.5 Catherine Kilgour

If you have already cached in the correct are you will automaticlly get the correct souvenir.

  • KM83

Still no souvenier for Namibia, Sambia and Botsuwana ! I hope they will come, soon !

  • Nol

I hope there will be an souvenir for Belgium

  • Phetlern

Thanks Eric for including the Australian States in the souvenir range – much appreciated.

  • http://www.facebook.com/cacheonwheels.geocaching Cache On Wheels Geocaching

    Yeah we got Denmark :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/cacheonwheels.geocaching Cache On Wheels Geocaching

We got the UK one through today :) thank you :)
It looks different to one I saw posted on another group though, which I think was ‘England’ is there an England one too then?

  • http://www.facebook.com/cacheonwheels.geocaching Cache On Wheels Geocaching

It has occurred to me that surely with over 5 MILLION Geocachers around the world, that there must be some of them who design artwork like this for a living – even my friend can design them, so why not let the Geocaching community help take the load off you?

You could even run it as a competiton for the just the countries initially who do not have a souvenir eg if you live in Belgium, (I have not received one for caching there yet) then you could enter a design – put them up for people to ‘like’ on Flickr with the others, the one with the most votes wins?

Then move onto counties / districts / states etc

    What do you all think?
    Would this be possible Groundspeak?

  • UpsisD

Wow, I did not expect souvenir to Latvia, that’s a HUGE surprise for me.
    Love it, thanks :))

  • http://www.facebook.com/jigerig.jig Ben Meier

I agree, that at least every country should have it’s own souvenir!!! :-)

  • rangerricksclan

I have been waiting so long for some. Thank you.
I have a question about the us state ones. Why go to the work to make them so beautiful when nobody will see them? The pic on my profile is just plain like it has always been. The other ones are nice.

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

You’re about to learn some magic. Click on the souvenir thumbnail pic on your profile and presto! the larger image will appear.

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

Like your idea! We’re already doing Mega-Event souvenirs kind of like that. Let me kick it around over here at HQ. Thanks for posting

  • Nuci

What about Italy with its different provinces ?

  • iersmeisje

With 35000 active geocachers and 22000 geocaches (source: wikipedia) it was eminent the Netherlands would get its own souvenir. And as much as I appreciate the Dutch souvenir I dislike the prominent presence in the description of the “coffee shops”. What happened to the wooden shoes and the tulips?
Furthermore it surprised me there was no souvenir published for Italy. I guess if resources is a problem to publish more, there will be plenty artistic geocachers willing to lend a hand ;-)

  • iersmeisje

Yes, we have shops which look like the one in the souvenir. But I think the Netherlands is more known for its flower-fields, flat landscape with lakes and windmills in the distance or if you like to see the Netherlands as Amsterdam only, the canals with bicycles parked on the sidewalk and the old typical Amsterdam houses.

By the way, the same font is used in the souvenirs for Sweden and Norway.

  • http://www.facebook.com/barbara.kearns.37 Barbara Kearns

So the UK souvenir is London – well what a surprise! Over here we all know that the COUNTRIES of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are just just a ten minute walk from London. Why not pick an image that sums up the Nation rather than one small corner of it? Still glad to get a souvenir, but it sends the wrong image to the rest of the World.

  • k-lord

you don´t have resources? Do you mean money or people? C´mon, if there is will, there will be always some option to do it.

  • NickW

There really should be a souvenir for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and I understand that they have been created, but not released for some reason. The UK is the country with the 4th largest number of geocaches in the world, so surely it makes sense to release the others?
