louwtjievdw: Featured Geocacher of the Month for February

Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as the Featured Geocacher of the Month for March.

Write a comment at the bottom of this blog about which of these geocachers you feel should be awarded the featured Geocacher of the Month title.

In February, Uncle Louwtjie, aka louwtjievdw, was named the Featured Geocacher of the Month. He’s known in the South African geocaching community as a creative geocache hider. He’s built a reputation as a geocacher who’s as quick to maintain his geocache hides as he is to make friends with new geocachers. He’s also known for friendly advice, leaving great logs on geocaches he’s found and having a cup of coffee ready for geocachers at his home.

Here are your nominees for the March featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

moenk – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

@mic nominated moenk who’s been geocaching since 2003. @mic says, “He (moenk) is the inventor of the very popular “Dönerstag“, an event which is celebrated in more than hundred locations worldwide on the same day. Furthermore, he created the biggest geocaching forum in Germany, Geoclub.de. And last but not least, he was producing a very famous podcast about geocaching called, “Cachetalk.” Another nominee wrote, “Moenk fosters the community towards a healthy growth, a responsible handling of nature and preserving the meaning and fun of geocaching. The Geocacher of the Month is a worthy reward for the energy, the
impetus and the style with which he supports the geocaching community.”

WVTim – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

wallmeister22601 writes, “Tim is an outstanding geocacher who has inspired many a person with his unique and unusual geocaches. His caches are what inspired me to start hiding caches of my own and to continue geocaching.  His caches draw people from other states that come to his home state of West Virginia specifically to search for the wonderful and creative WVTim caches. He has the number one favorite physical traditional cache in the state of Virginia as well.

Tim is one of the most responsible geocache owners that I know. If any of his caches are in need of attention he will make it a point to repair them or replace them as quickly as he can. In short Tim in my opinion is a pillar of the geocaching community that inspires, encourages, educates and gives back so much.”

Christmaxx - nominated as Featured Geocacher of the Month
Christmaxx – nominated as Featured Geocacher of the Month

MallorcaClaudia writes, “They have placed a lot of geocaches in Majorca [including one featured as the Geocache of the Week with more than 350 favorite Points] and all of them are fantastic ones with special places, great views and nice trips. When I met them one year ago on a geocaching event I found out that they are also very friendly and nice people. They have given me a lot of advice on how to place geocaches and how to do the maintenance. For me they have become very good friends and for me the chrismaxx team is an idol.”

  1. I vote for moenk BECAUSE he says that Groundspeak can “kiss his ass”.

Tribute to Groundspeak for nominating him anyway….

  2. No doubt about it: moenk, who else? He is operating the best german speaking geocaching forum !

  3. I love, love WVTim’s style. He has remarkable caches, very clever and fun to find. Additionally, he fosters a learning environment among all of the cachers in the community. He is kind and smart. He is a great role model of caching ethics to those around him. Go Tim!!

  4. I love, love WVTim’s style. He has remarkable caches, very clever and
fun to find. Additionally, he fosters a learning environment among all
of the cachers in the community. He is kind and smart. He is a great
role model of caching ethics to those around him. Go Tim!!

  5. There is no better ambassador for the Geocaching community than WVTim. Spend five minutes with him and you will know why. Great guy, fun and creative caches. He has a true love for what it is that we do! WVTim has my vote!

  6. … und ich schreibe mal einfach mal auf deutsch. Immherhin ist Deuschland die zweitgrösste Geocaching-Gemeinde weltweit.

Ein Plätzchen an Moenks Tapete, ist wohl mehr als verdient.

    Vote for MOENK, definitely

  7. chrismaxx should be geocacher of the month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved the “Merry Chrismaxx” Caches from 2012, which gave me and my family a wonderful Christmas Tour on Majorca. Thank you so much for your ideas! Muchas gracias. Danke!

  8. I vote for Chrismaxx because of “Punta de N´Amer” but also because he shows us a lot of interesting places. Thank you for being a real geocacher.

  9. Whrer did moenk say that “kiss my ass”-Stuff (link)? Doesen’t matter…

If you don’t want to see spoilers (you don’t own any cache…), just get out of the spoiler-subforum.
And: NO! PM’s are no extraordinary people.
    I would vote for moenk.
(where could I do that? I will not subscribe in som of these data-collecting social-network-octopuses)

  10. I recall a geocacher who was banned for showing spoilers of
others caches yet moenk does the same in his forum. His fans are even admitting it in this
blog. Groundspeak should check into this in my opinion.

  11. First let me congratulate the other two nominations. Just to be chosen is very impressive! I Thank each of you for your contributions to our hobby. I’ve taken some time now to read the comments, do a little research and look at the profiles, the choice seems clear – WVTim gets my vote. Clearly moenk has a large following, his podcast alone will generate lots of votes. It would be hard to compete with someone with such a public platform. But, WVTim does and he seems to embody everything that is good about Geocaching. He volunteers and teaches geocaching in the schools, is a geocaching merit badge councilor for the boy scouts, has had many, many seminar’s which appear geared towards getting new people involved and educating people about our hobby. He works with his community and the State to promote our hobby. He is impacting geocaching accross the glode! I watched his youtube channel, which has a single purpose, to give ideas on how to build interesting and challenging caches. He shares his ideas openly and wants NO credit. He just wants to improve our hobby by making unique and interesting caches. He appears to place all sorts of caches, some for the kids, he has created geocache hiking trails, geocache bike trails, some “evil” hides, and some “gadget” caches to test the skills of the experienced cacher. He is far more than just GREAT caches (although over 2000 favorite votes is quite an ACCOMPLISHMENT, because it appears he lives in a small town, which tells me geocachers are traveling to his caches), he appears to be a great ambassador for geocaching. Isn’t that what your looking for? Let’s go with WVTim!

  12. WVTim for sure. He has placed so many novel gadget caches that have been constructed with flawless handiwork. I joined him, along with my kids, on his Cave geocache. This was a memorable and muddy adventure for sure.

  13. I cast my vote for WVTim. He has some truly stellar caches out there. He has 8 out of the top 10 caches in WV by favorites….that should say something about the overall quality of Tim’s caches. He has also done much in the way of outreach for the geocaching community in our area and introduced countless newbies to geocaching with his Geocaching Seminars.
