Hey, you guuuuuyyyyss! In a world full of many unknowns, it’s up to you to save the Goonies. Do you have what it takes to find the missing treasure and get back to safety before it’s too late? Are you brave like “Mikey,” creative like “Data,” or witty like “Mouth?” Gather your Goonie crew and set sail for an action-packed adventure of a lifetime with this Geocache of the Week: The Goonies (GC3AYDN).

Just like in the 1985 movie, The Goonies, geocachers face many obstacles to find One-Eyed Willy’s treasure and save the town. Make your way to the posted coordinates and see if you can overcome all of the puzzles before the Fratelli family–the evil villains of this story–beat you to the treasure.

At the coordinates there are three boxes, look for a slimy little friend that will help unlock the middle box. The smiley tool is located on one of the boxes and has a special magnet piece that will unlock your journey. Once inside, additional tools are available to help your team find the lost treasure. Follow the instructions very carefully in this box and on the cache page; mistakes can be costly.

Navigate to the left and watch out for any bats or boulders that may get in the way. Data is known for his gadgets that keep the Goonies out of trouble while they navigate through the tunnels. In the second box, your best gadget skills will come in handy to crack the code.

With the Fratellis right on your heels, the pressure is on. Stay focused and remember: slow and steady wins the race. A pull here, a lift there—shiver me timbers—you successfully unlocked the final box. The treasure is within reach!

Bright shining jewels and tons of gold doubloons blind you as you slowly open the final cache container. You did it, Goonie! You’ve escaped the booby traps that guard the treasure and dodged the Fratellis. One-Eyed Willy is proud of your determination and pirate-like skills; only a real Goonie would be able to find his jewels. Finally, you let out a big sigh of relief with the jewels and the cache container in your hand.

TCapitano shares some of their inspiration behind the cache saying, “This fantastic movie from my childhood, which I’ve watched hundreds of times and still love. What would better fit a treasure hunt for a geocache than a treasure hunt theme like the Goonies!” It’s clear, too, that the community loves this cache. Over 4000 people have found GC3AYDN, and it has over 3000 Favorite points since its creation almost ten years ago.

Before you wave goodbye to One-Eyed Willy on his pirate ship, don’t forget to snap a few pictures of your Goonie gang dressed up as their favorite Goonie from the film. While you’re at it, don’t forget to do the truffle shuffle, and remember, Goonies never say die!
