Adventure Lab Spotlight: A Track Through the City

All aboard! The Adventure “A Track Through the City” takes explorers along what’s left of the Singapore-Kranji railway line. The railway line was a vital line of public transportation in the early 1900s, but was dismantled in the 1930s because of traffic and safety concerns. Follow the tracks and discover hidden history on a walk taking you through Chinatown to the Tanjong Pagar district of Singapore.

The Locations of this Adventure take you to interesting sights tucked away in bustling sections of the city. One example of these hidden gems is the Location called “Station 4: A Bridge Over the Plains”. At this Location you’ll discover Duxton Plain, which Adventure creator riskysurv describes as a “serene oasis of greenery in the midst of a busy city.”

This narrow park follows the path of the former Singapore-Kranji railway line. As you walk along the path, you can get in touch with Singapore’s past at a shrine to an 18th century Muslim saint, and see a symbol of Singapore’s modern present at the Pinnacles, an impressive 50-story public housing project. Visitors can go to the skybridge on the 50th story for a breathtaking view.

The Adventure has five sequential Locations and is easily walkable. Reviews for this Adventure emphasize how it reveals interesting sides of Singapore you might otherwise miss. One adventurer writes, “This AL makes you imagine that the old railway line must’ve been quite charming. Only now did I notice those historical buildings from long ago that escaped the ongoing development all around. Thanks for the interesting facts on location and the good walkabout.”
