Thank a Volunteer Day is May 22!

Whether you’ve been geocaching for 20 minutes or 20 years, you’ve benefited from the efforts of dedicated geocaching volunteers. Nearly 400 community volunteers and thousands of cache owners and Event hosts give their time generously to help geocachers all over the world enjoy their favorite game.

Community volunteers include reviewers, EarthCache reviewers, forum moderators, and translators. They perform their roles solely for the love of the game and because they enjoy helping others. Volunteers are also those who create high quality geocaches to inspire others, bring their local community together for social events, and serve on the planning committees for Mega and Giga-Events. They beta-test new features from Geocaching HQ, are active within their local geocaching organizations, and host Cache In Trash Out® (CITO) Events to give back to the environment where we play our game.

On May 22 (and every day), take some time to thank and celebrate the volunteers that give of themselves every day to make the geocaching world turn. They put in a lot of effort for you!

The making of a Lackey Tag

Lackey Tags have been around since 2011, when they were given to Lackeys* to commemorate their Lackeyversaries (the anniversary of the date they joined the company). These coveted tags are traded at events, dropped into caches, or sent off into the world as owned trackables. Since the only way to acquire one of these tags is for someone to interact directly with a Lackey, they can become quite popular among SWAG collectors. (Or would it be SFLO—Stuff From Lackeys Only)? You may be wondering how these special tags get created. Here, graphic designer Roxxy gives us the scoop on the history, design, and production of Lackey tags.

Het maken van een Lackey-tag

Lackey-tags bestaan sinds 2011, toen ze aan Lackeys* werden gegeven om hun Lackeyverjaardag te vieren (de verjaardag van de datum dat zij het bedrijf kwamen werken). Deze gewilde tags worden geruild op events, achtergelaten in caches of de wijde wereld ingestuurd als eigen trackables. Omdat de enige manier om aan één van deze tags te komen is om direct contact te hebben met een Lackey, kunnen ze erg populair worden bij SWAG-verzamelaars. (Of zou het SVAL – Spul Van Alleen Lackeys – moeten zijn?) Je vraagt je misschien af hoe deze speciale tags worden gemaakt. Cómo se diseñan las chapas de Lackey

Las chapas de Lackey rondan por ahí desde 2011, cuando los Lackeys* las recibieron para conmemorar sus Lackeyversarios (los aniversarios de la fecha en la que habían empezado a trabajar en la empresa). Estas codiciadas chapas se pueden intercambiar en eventos, dejar en cachés o mandar a descubrir mundo como rastreables de tu propiedad. Como la única forma de conseguirlas es tener un contacto directo con un Lackey, pueden llegar a ser muy populares entre los coleccionistas de objetos de intercambio. (¿O más bien para los que coleccionan “cosas solo de Lackeys”?) Quizás te preguntes cómo se diseñan estos objetos tan especiales. Die Herstellung eines Lackey-Tags

Lackey-Tags gibt es seit 2011. Sie wurden als kleines Geschenk zu den Lackeyjubiläen – also den Jahrestagen ihres Eintritts in die Firma – ausgeteilt. Diese kleinen Münzen werden auf Events getauscht, in Geocaches abgelegt, oder als Trackables durch die Welt geschickt. Die einzige Möglichkeit, zu einem solchen Lackey-Tag zu kommen, ist ein direkter Kontakt mit einem Lackey. Daher sind diese Lackey-Tags sehr begehrte Tauschgegenstände.
