Find your reason in the changing seasons
The seasons are changing and here in Seattle spring has been teasing us with several days of sunshine and lots of blooming flowers. We are entering what is affectionately known as “Mud Season” in the northern hemisphere and “Stick Season” in the southern hemisphere. The time of year where the ground is thawing from winter making every dirt road and trail supple, and where Fall is fulfilling its namesake as the leaves fall to the ground leaving bare trees.
It might not sound like a good time to go geocaching, but it is. There are things you need to be aware of, such as muddy roads that are easy to get stuck in, and that the weather can change on a dime so you need to pack layers, but there are plenty of reasons to head out geocaching during the shoulder season and we’re sharing three of them.

Thank a Volunteer Day
If you’ve ever hidden a geocache (or found one!), a geocaching community volunteer helped make it happen. These expert geocachers review each geocache placed to ensure it meets the geocaching guidelines and regional policies.
Geocaching community volunteers keep this game in motion: forums are moderated, blogs are translated, geocachers are mentored, and new geocaches are published far and wide. In the past year, the pandemic has added a new layer of challenges onto the normal tasks for the community volunteers, and they have weathered the storm admirably.

Bedank een vrijwilliger-dag
Als je ooit een geocache verstopt hebt (of er één hebt gevonden!), heeft een geocaching gemeenschapsvrijwilliger geholpen om dit mogelijk te maken. Deze geocache-experts bekijken iedere geocache die geplaatst wordt om er zeker van te zijn dat hij voldoet aan de geocacherichtlijnen en de plaatselijke regels.
Geocaching gemeenschapsvrijwilligers houden dit spel in beweging: forums worden gemodereerd, blogs worden vertaald, geocachers worden begeleid en nieuwe geocaches worden overal gepubliceerd. De pandemie heeft het afgelopen jaar een nieuwe set uitdagingen aan de normale taken van de gemeenschapsvrijwilligers toegevoegd en ze hebben deze storm met verve doorstaan.

Fête des Bénévoles
Si vous avez déjà posé une géocache (ou bien trouvé une !), c’est grâce à l’action d’un bénévole de la communauté. Ces géocacheurs experts revoient chaque géocache placée afin de s’assurer qu’elle est conforme aux guidelines du géocaching et des règles locales.
Les bénévoles de la communauté du géocaching assurent la continuité du jeu : modération des forums, traduction des blogs, accompagnement des géocacheurs, publication de nouvelles géocaches dans le monde entier. Au court de la dernière année, la pandémie a ajouté une nouvelle couche de challenges aux taches normalement effectuées par les bénévoles de la communauté, et ils ont affronté la tempête avec brio.
