CITO: Do something for your community

Over the years there have been all types of CITO Events, but many associate them with litter picking. Having started on March 1 and running through the end of May, Geocaching HQ is offering the first CITO season for 2019 and with over 800 events around the world already on the calendar, why not join in helping to plant trees, repair gates and stiles, rebuild dry stone walls, and help dredge canals at one of these events?

“ATTENTION! Front yard cache!” is the first thing you see when checking the listing of
Maniac cache: ‘QR Challenge’ in Loil, Netherlands. But this is no ordinary yard.
Cache owner IronManiacGLD has turned his front yard into an eclectic geocaching paradise full of birdhouses, tubes, padlocks, pulleys, and puzzle boxes. To initiate the Multi-Cache, locate and scan the first QR code. A message appears, “Welcome to Maniac cache: ‘QR Challenge’ (front yard cache) in Loil. This is a really nice search for young and old geocachers to think through and complete! Do you accept the challenge?”

Sloten, RFID chips en geheime koffertjes: een interview met een geocaching maniak
Gelderland is een opkomende provincie als het gaat over het maken van geocaches; gadget caches, puzzel doosjes, grote cache boxen, het kan niet op! Eén van de meest prominente cache eigenaren uit die provincie is IronManiacGLD. Zijn geocaches variëren van vogelhuisjes met sloten en RFID chips in puzzeldoosjes tot geheime koffertjes rechtstreeks uit een James Bond film.
Veel van deze caches hebben een hoog percentage favorietpunten— niet slecht voor een cacher die pas in 2017 begonnen is. Deze caches bevatten allemaal veel details en een intellectuele aanpak. IronManiacGLD is een expert in menselijk gedrag en is gespecialiseerd in leugendetectie. Hij zegt, een van de dingen die hem het meest inspireren zijn het vinden van ingewikkelde veldpuzzels en na te denken over hoe de cache-eigenaren het proces hebben doordacht.
Hoewel we allemaal geen experts zijn in menselijk gedrag, is er één belangrijk ding om te onthouden: iedereen is in staat om ontzagwekkende geocaches te creëren, je hoeft alleen maar je creativiteit te benutten en niet bang te zijn om hulp te vragen!
