Since 2004, EarthCaches have encouraged geocachers to explore and celebrate the extraordinary geologic features of our planet, like these colorful rock formations in China. Shaped over millions of years by tectonic forces and erosion, the painted hills of Zhangye National Geopark are among the world’s most colorful natural wonders.
For the past few years, we’ve caught up with Marcellus Cadd (atreides) of Geocaching While Black to hear where geocaching has taken him lately, and this year, there’s a lot to talk about.
We talked with him about his latest travels, balancing community service with caching for yourself, Treasure collecting, the enduring appeal of Traditional Caches, and what he wishes he could tell his 2018 geocaching self.
Over the last weekend in July, I had the pleasure of flying across the Atlantic to attend CacheInPorto, a Mega-Event in Porto, Portugal.
Created & hosted by CITO_PT, CacheInPorto gave geocachers a chance to explore the Lipor Adventure Park, a former landfill site. The park offered beautiful panoramic views as the setting for the Mega-Event.
Along the shores of Washington’s Hood Canal, the Union River winds through wetlands and estuary habitat where salmon, wildlife, and geocachers all share the landscape.
At the Salmon Center in Belfair, visitors might expect to encounter wild flora and fauna and the obvious: salmon. But something big is hiding among its peaceful surroundings, and we mean big. B.R.T. (GC7Q4F0) proves that finding the cache can be the easy part.

One video can spark an adventure.
That’s exactly what happened to Mileomy, who discovered geocaching through a TikTok video. Before long, that curiosity became a passion not only for finding creative geocaches but for creating her own and sharing her journey online. Through her videos, it’s easy to see how her cache, Kunterbunt (GCB473J), became one of Berlin’s most celebrated geocaches.
