MINUTE by MINUTE… MILE by MILE… The RING OF FIRE closed… on INNOCENT and GUILTY alike!

That’s the tagline for the 1961 Hollywood film titled Ring of Fire. The movie follows a small-town sheriff in Oregon who arrests a trio of robbers (two men and one woman). The tables turn, the robbers take the sheriff hostage, a forest fire rages out of control, and calamity ensues.

In the final scene, a burning railroad trestle collapses during an attempted crossing (forward to 14:00 for the “good part”). Although most of the movie takes place and was filmed in Oregon, this key scene was filmed along the Wynoochee River, in Washington State. The bridge and trestle were blown up, sending two passenger cars and a 60-ton steam engine to crash and burn in the river below.

The gorge was deemed too deep and the train too heavy to remove, so the passenger cars were cut in two and moved to the river’s edge. Almost 60 years later the wreckage remains, making this already beautiful hike even more epic. The movie may be a trainwreck, but this epic T5 geocache is definitely worth the effort!

Nous vous présentons les Récompenses Virtuelles !

Geocaching HQ a le plaisir de vous annoncer l’apparition des Récompenses Virtuelles, un projet visant à récompenser une partie des extraordinaires contributeurs du géocaching, mais aussi à créer un nombre restreint de nouvelles Caches Virtuelles dont toute la communauté du géocaching pourra profiter.

Le 24 août 2017, environ 4000 géocacheurs répartis dans 63 pays du monde entier ont reçu un e-mail contenant les informations sur leur Récompense Virtuelle. Ce groupe est constitué majoritairement des poseurs représentant 1% des meilleures caches et issus de pays avec au moins 100 poseurs. Nous avons créé un algorithme permettant d’identifier ces joueurs en fonction de la qualité et de la santé globales de leurs caches. Les bénévoles actifs de la communauté ont aussi reçu des Récompenses Virtuelles afin de les remercier pour le temps et les compétences qu’ils consacrent à aider la communauté du géocaching.

Wir stellen vor: Die Belohnungs-Virtuals!

Das Geocaching Hauptquartier freut sich, die neuen Belohnungs-Virtuals vorzustellen. Das ist ein Projekt, um einigen der vielen Cache-Ownern, die zu Geocaching beitragen, Danke zu sagen. Gleichzeitig führen wir eine limitierte Anzahl neuer virtueller Geocaches ein, an der sich die gesamte Geocaching-Gemeinschaft erfreuen kann.

Ab dem 24. August 2017 haben etwa 4.000 Geocacher in 63 Ländern E-Mails erhalten und wurden darüber informiert, dass sie eine virtuelle Belohnung erhalten haben. Die auserwählten Geocacher sind zum Großteil die Cacher, die das qualitativ beste Prozent der Caches in ihrem Land versteckt haben. Gezählt wurden alle Länder, in denen mindestens 100 verschiedene Geocacher Caches versteckt haben. Wir haben einen Algorithmus entwickelt, der dieses eine Prozent berechnet. Es zählt die Qualität und der Zustand der Dosen. Aktive Ehrenamtliche bekommen ebenfalls einen Belohnungs-Virtual als Dankeschön für ihren Einsatz und ihre Hilfe für die Geocaching-Gemeinschaft
