Geocaching can leave a lasting impact on us in many ways, from the ingenuity of the geocaches to the new places we discover. We have decided to revisit some of our favorite Geocaches of the Week from the past.

This week we’re looking back to December 2012 and the island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea. Separated from Sardinia, Italy by the Strait of Bonifacio, Corsica is home to Occi (GCWGPH). This geocache brings geocachers to the abandoned village of Occi. Scholars believe this small town was founded in the Middle Ages, and the first inhabitants were refugees from a nearby town. Although it was inhabited for hundreds of years, the small village was eventually abandoned for the larger town of Lumio.

Did you know that when the credits rolled for The Wizard of Oz in 1939 the yellow brick road did not end? You have the opportunity to step into the land of Oz at TIN MAN, (GC3JAY4). This geocache was originally featured as Geocache of the Week almost nine years ago in 2012. 

TIN MAN is still a big hit among geocachers, whether or not they consider themselves a fan of The Wizard of Oz. We originally featured GC3JAY4 as Geocache of the Week back when it was only six months old, and it has since accumulated 530 Favorite points and logged over 730 times.

Cabo Verde is a remote archipelago that lies to the east of West Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. The ten islands are home to an awe-inspiring blend of environments. The country features towering volcanoes, deep canyons, rippling sand dunes, forested mountains, golden beaches, and dry salt flats. The music is just as enchanting as its natural attractions. Cabo Verde is famous for Morna, its national music that beautifully incorporates dance, voice, and poetry.

Jamaica, an island located in the Caribbean Sea, delights all five of the senses. Reggae, folk, and dancehall music provide an unforgettable soundtrack as the smell of spices and taste of fresh tropical fruits highlight Jamaica’s incredible musical and culinary traditions. The warm blue waters and famous beaches contrast with the Blue Mountains to the east. From the distance, a blue haze lingers over these mountains well-known for the coffee beans that grow there and the highest peak in Jamaica, Blue Mountain Peak.

Latvia offers a stunning array of beauty to geocachers. As cachers wind through the streets of capital city Riga, it’s evident that this city is the Art Nouveau capital of Europe. At every turn there are magnificent buildings that are works of art. A Multi-Cache that combines these sights with geocaching is the ultimate highlight of a trip to Riga. Geocachers are amazed by this complex and captivating architecture at our Geocache of the Week, Jugendstil cache (GC17YDH).
