Breaking the ice: A guide to getting comfortable at Events

The theme of this month of Wheel of Challenges, Teamwork Makes the Dream Work, is all about community connection. If you’re looking to get closer to earning the souvenirs for the challenge, attending Events and posting “Attended” logs for those Events is sure to get you there.

However, Events might not be the type of geocache that you’re usually drawn to. If the thought of meeting a bunch of new people and striking up conversation is overwhelming, attending an Event could feel a little daunting. You’re not alone. Where are the missing DNFs?

When you can’t find a geocache, do you log your DNF? To some cachers, it may sound like a trick question, because of course they do. Others cite any number of reasons for not logging a “Didn’t find it.” Maybe they think they didn’t spend enough time looking, or they only log a DNF if they feel certain the cache isn’t there. Some fear their DNF log will be the reason for a cache’s archival (it won’t). Whatever the reasons, most geocachers would agree that a lot of DNFs go unlogged. Continue reading →
