Things are heating up in the world of Mega- and Giga-Events. Just this past weekend, the first Mega-Event of 2023 took place in Yuma, Arizona with over 350 Attended logs. Mega- and Giga-Events are gatherings of hundreds or thousands (Giga-Events) of geocachers where you can share geocaching tips and stories, make new friends, and take part in all kinds of geocaching fun. 20th Anniversary Celebration Recap
On August 20, 2022, thousands of geocachers and explorers gathered in Seattle, Washington, to celebrate over 20 years of geocaching. In the works since 2019, we could hardly contain our excitement to meet everyone and host this Event.
We’re immeasurably thankful to the global geocaching community for making this possible. For those who couldn’t attend, here’s how the day’s activities unfolded:
Celebrate 20 years of geocaching at Community Celebration Events
This post has been updated to reflect changes that were made in response to the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Geocaching HQ wants to allow flexibility for hosts to schedule their Community Celebration Events, since this is a unique Event type. Event hosts will be allowed to host these events until December 31, 2022.
Geocaching is what you’ve made it. Entering into the 20th year of geocaching, we want to celebrate what’s most important: this community-driven game!
Beginning today, eligible geocachers can apply to host Community Celebration Events in 2020-2022. These events will enable cachers around the world to commemorate the 20th anniversary of geocaching with a new icon and souvenir.
