Fitness is an essential part of life. For some it’s running, cycling, climbing, or going to the gym; for others it’s geocaching. One cache owner (TCapitano) has added a component to their geocache that requires some movement on your behalf. Maybe we spoke too soon, don’t worry the cache owner is no cycle-path: the cache is geared towards fun not the Tour de France.

This crowd favorite has garnered over 2,600 Finds since 2015 in Hessen, Germany. Of the geocachers who have found the magnificent geocache, 89% of them gave a Favorite point, making it one of the highest Favorited caches in the world.

The top 10 “best” geocaching songs — Volume 2

What makes a great geocaching song? Sure, the tune has to be catchy (cache-y?), but there’s a lot more to it than that. The lyrics and spirit must include one or more of the following: discovery, far away travels, overcoming incredible physical challenges, the thrill of victory, and agony of defeat.

So in response to our original post about geo-music, you submitted your own sing-a-long suggestions. Here they are in all their glory, the second list of the Top 10 “best” geocaching songs.* Continue reading →

A peek into a secret cache building society: Interview with cache owner CacheDweeb

Dog and dog's best friend, CacheDweeb
Dog and dog’s best friend, CacheDweeb

Did you know there are groups of gadget cache builders who slave away, day after day, week after week, huddled deep inside cluttered garages, endlessly tinkering with magnets, locks, pulleys, springs, clasps, and other such bric-a-brac? They do this for you, to put a smile on your face, and in turn, an even bigger smile on their own.

Meet one such clever cache creator, CacheDweeb. His claw-machine, drawer-popping, and sound-enhanced DONKEY KACHE was featured as a Geocache of the Week. We ask a few questions, get a few answers, and learn the method behind the madness of this master cache owner.

Arcade claw machines, mirrored illusions, and mazes: Interview with cache owner mrradach

Everything from arcade claw machines, mirrored illusions, and mazes have been used by creative cache owner mrradach. To break up the monotony of his day job as a tram driver, he was looking for something with action, adventure, and a creative change-up to ease his ambitions. In his own words, “I’ve been looking for such a pastime for a while and found it in geocaching. I especially like the creative aspect of it, as a geocacher and cache owner.”

Geocaching was the perfect outlet for this, and mrradach’s 31 geocache hides with 90+ Favorite points (2 hides have over 400 FP’s!) speak for themselves in terms of their quality. Though if it weren’t for his dad and two brothers coming home late to Christmas dinner seven years ago, angering the whole family, he wouldn’t have known about geocaching. At the time mrradach didn’t understand why or how they could have forgotten the time but now he says he totally understands.

These cool, fun, and interactive caches inspire cachers at all experience levels. Their appeal sparked some interest at HQ so we reached out to mrradach to get to know what goes on when he is daydreaming of future cache hides, what excites him about the game, and where his inspiration comes from.
