Preikestolen is calling cachers near and far to the south of Norway, where it perches on a vertical cliff towering 1,982 ft (604 m) above the blue waters of the Lysefjord.
I glanced out of the bus when leaving the airport. Large chunks of concrete created a grey contrast against the thick packs of snow slowly forming against the structures from the penetrating ice rains slamming down gloomy suburbs. To say it was love at first sight between me and Bucharest would be an unreserved lie.
But, I’m tolerant. I believe in second chances. I wanted a slice of the Balkans raw on my plate and to sink my teeth into them. I was, by all means, determined to find the hidden treasures of Romania’s frozen capital. Literally.
Geocaching was going to be the compass to my urban exploration, a digital cupid to slowly, but surely, make me fall with the introverted charm of this destination.
It worked.

Trackable fans know of her, children love her books, and dreamers dream bigger because of her. Kat Kronenberg is at the center of everything wholesome in our world. If you are not familiar with her, she is a best-selling and award-winning author who lives in Austin, Texas. Her two popular children’s books “Dream Big” and “Love Big” carry positive messages to children and adults alike. If this sounds familiar to you as a geocacher, it’s likely because of the two trackable promotions in recent years. Between her two campaigns, 2,600 trackables have been released and have travelled a cumulative 7 million miles (11 million km) to 114 countries.
Kat chose to work with Geocaching HQ because she herself is a geocacher and has a connection to the community:
“The treasure hunt theme and community are why I decided to partner with Geocaching. I have to be true to my vision and if I am going to put any time and resources to building the vision of what my books are intended to be this was the place to do it. Mine started in Austin, Texas with the hope to make it to Africa. So far it has been to Hawaii and is in Canada now. AMAZING!”

What makes a great geocaching song? Sure, the tune has to be catchy (cache-y?), but there’s a lot more to it than that. The lyrics and spirit must include one or more of the following: discovery, far away travels, overcoming incredible physical challenges, the thrill of victory, and agony of defeat.

Everything from arcade claw machines, mirrored illusions, and mazes have been used by creative cache owner mrradach. To break up the monotony of his day job as a tram driver, he was looking for something with action, adventure, and a creative change-up to ease his ambitions. In his own words, “I’ve been looking for such a pastime for a while and found it in geocaching. I especially like the creative aspect of it, as a geocacher and cache owner.”
Geocaching was the perfect outlet for this, and mrradach’s 31 geocache hides with 90+ Favorite points (2 hides have over 400 FP’s!) speak for themselves in terms of their quality. Though if it weren’t for his dad and two brothers coming home late to Christmas dinner seven years ago, angering the whole family, he wouldn’t have known about geocaching. At the time mrradach didn’t understand why or how they could have forgotten the time but now he says he totally understands.
These cool, fun, and interactive caches inspire cachers at all experience levels. Their appeal sparked some interest at HQ so we reached out to mrradach to get to know what goes on when he is daydreaming of future cache hides, what excites him about the game, and where his inspiration comes from.
