Folge einfach den Favoritenpunkten, um zu einem #OMGeocache zu gelangen.

Es gibt einen Unterschied dazwischen, einen guten Geocache zu finden und einen solchen, der Dir den Unterkiefer runterklappen lässt, bei dem die Favoritenpunkte nur so hochschnellen und der Geocacher auf der ganzen Welt inspiriert. Wir nennen solche Dosen #OMGeocaches.

Glücklicherweise ist es nicht allzu schwierig, diese zu finden. Einige davon stellen wir auf dem Geocaching-Pinterest-Board vor, auf dem Du Dir 194 kreative Geocache-Verstecke ansehen kannst. Im Blog wird außerdem wöchentlich einer davon als “Geocache der Woche” vorgestellt werden. Und wenn Du Lust hast, einen davon draußen in der Wildnis zu suchen, können Geocaching-Premium-Mitglieder die neue Suchfunktion nach Favoritenpunkten nutzen.

Vergiss nicht, Deine Geocaches online zu loggen.

Ein Geocache besteht nicht nur aus einem Ort und einer Dose. Mit jedem Fund – oder Nichtfund – ist immer auch eine Geschichte verbunden. Diese Geschichten sind die Logeinträge, die Geocacher auf der Seite des Geocaches hinterlassen. Es gibt zahlreiche Gründe, aus denen Du bei den von Dir angegangenen Geocaches hochwertige Logs hinterlassen solltest, aber für den Anfang findest Du hier schon mal ein paar:

  • Geocache-Owner lesen gern neue Logs. Sie helfen ihnen auch dabei festzustellen, wie es um ihren Geocache bestellt ist.
  • Andere Geocacher suchen gern in früheren Logs nach Tipps und weiteren Informationen.
  • DNF-Logs teilen anderen Geocachern mit, dass der Geocache möglicherweise doch etwas komplizierter als erwartet ist oder eine Wartung benötigt.

Also zeige der Geocaching-Gemeinschaft, was es heißt, einen tollen Logeintrag zu verfassen: Teile auf der Geocaching-Seite auf Facebook den besten Logeintrag, den Du jemals gelesen (oder geschrieben) hast.

Some celebrate milestones like First to Find or 100 Finds, and some are just cool, like an eagle whose wings actually flap (fly eagle, fly!).

12 years ago on September 30, 2001, Geocoins came into existence with a solid clunk in a geocache. Today more than 3 million Geocoins are proudly displayed in collections and found in geocaches around the world. There are even Geocoinfest Mega-Events held in Europe and the United States each year.

If you’re entering the realm of Geocoins, here are a few quick tips:

• Don’t forget to activate your Geocoin.
• Many Geocoins are meant to be admired and “Discovered,” while others are meant to travel.

3 Tips to Help Keep Travel Bugs on the Road

Thousands of Travel Bugs are in motion right now. They’re powered by geocachers, bounding from geocache to geocache. Travel Bugs travel in pockets, backpacks, purses and snuggle up in suitcases for long distance voyages. Sometimes though, their travels stop cold. They get stuck in couch cushions, lost in the kitchen junk drawer or simply (and sadly) forgotten.

Here are 3 tips to help Travel Bugs do what they do best: travel. First, if you find a Travel Bug® or any trackable in a geocache, you are not required to trade anything for it. But if you take it, follow some common sense trackable etiquette. It all starts by entering the tracking code here.

•    Log that you have retrieved the Travel Bug or trackable from the geocache as soon as you’re able. By logging that you’ve retrieved it, the Travel Bug owner, geocache owner and all those looking for Travel Bugs will know that this one is on the move.

•    Check the Travel Bug’s goal by going to its page. It’s as easy as typing in the tracking code. Then you can find out if it’s headed to beaches around the world, mountain tops in Austria or somewhere else. The idea is to place the Travel Bug in a geocache that will move it closer to its goal.

•    Drop the trackable in the next geocache and log that you have done so. If you need to keep the trackable for more than two weeks, please email the owner to let them know that their trackable is taking a short rest, but will be on the road again soon.
